Who it is for / Driving instructors / Lesson types and intensive courses
Every kind of lesson enquiry, taken properly.
Beginners, nervous drivers, refresher lessons, intensive courses, motorway lessons and Pass Plus all start with a phone call. While You Work answers in your school’s name, finds out what the caller wants and where they are starting from, and sends it to you.
Tell it what you offer
In the set-up form you list what you teach, for example beginner lessons, refresher lessons, intensive courses, Pass Plus, motorway lessons or test-day car hire, and whether you teach in a manual, an automatic or both. Your receptionist uses that when callers ask what you offer.
Intensive courses
Callers wanting an intensive course usually have a date in mind. Your receptionist records that they want an intensive course, whether they hold a provisional licence, how much experience they have and any timescale they mention, so you can tell them straight away whether you can fit it in.
Refresher lessons and nervous drivers
Someone who passed years ago and has not driven since needs a different first lesson from a new learner. Your receptionist takes their experience in their own words, so you know before you ring back. If you welcome nervous drivers, add it in the set-up form and callers who ask are told.
Driving tests and test-day car hire
When a pupil rings about their test, your receptionist records that it is about a test, with any date they mention, and passes it to you. It never books or changes a DVSA test itself.
What callers hear
An example call, word for word
The receptionist asks one thing at a time and checks the number back. The details reach you by email a minute after the call, and anything urgent by text straight away.
What reaches you
Priyanka (new pupil), 07700 900525, LS6 Headingley. Refresher lessons, full licence, not driven for 6 years, wants to be confident before a new job in May.
Receptionist: Hi, you’re through to Sarah’s Driving School. Sarah is teaching, so I’m the automated assistant taking details for a call back between lessons. Calls are recorded so nothing gets missed. What’s your name?
Caller: Hi, it’s Priyanka. I passed my test years ago but I haven’t driven since, and I need to feel confident again before I start a new job in May.
Receptionist: Thanks, Priyanka. So that’s refresher lessons. When did you last drive?
Caller: About six years ago.
Receptionist: And what’s your postcode, for picking you up?
Caller: LS6, in Headingley.
Receptionist: And what’s the best number for Sarah to ring you on?
Caller: 07700 900 525.
Receptionist: So that’s 07700 900 525. Is that right?
Caller: Yes, that’s right.
Receptionist: Thanks, Priyanka. Sarah will ring you back between lessons.
Questions
Questions from driving instructors
Does it know whether I teach in an automatic?
Yes. You choose manual, automatic or both in the set-up form, and your receptionist tells callers who ask.
Can it book a DVSA driving test?
No. It records that the caller is asking about a test, with any date they mention, and passes it to you. It never books or changes a test with the DVSA.
Can it quote for an intensive course?
It gives your lesson price if you have set one and says you will confirm packages and discounts. It never makes up a course price.
Can it book lessons into my diary?
Yes, on the Business plan. It offers your real free lesson times, books the lesson and texts the pupil a confirmation with your deposit link, then a reminder before the lesson. On Pro it can text the pupil your booking link instead, and on Starter it takes the details and you confirm.

Fill the gaps in your diary without picking up the phone
Free for 7 days, no card. Pupils and clients who ring while you are busy get a proper answer, a text to say you will ring back, and on Pro your booking link. Plans from £39 a month plus VAT after that; Pro is £69, or £49 plus VAT for 12 months for the first 50 UK businesses.
