Questions

Questions people ask before they sign up

Something missing? Email hello@whileyouwork.ai and a person will answer.

Hear it first: call (866) 977-5432, toll-free, and Ellie, our own receptionist, answers.

How it works

What happens when someone calls me?

Your cell rings as normal. If you don't answer, your carrier forwards the call to your While You Work number. The assistant answers in your business name, says it is an AI assistant and that the call is recorded, takes the caller's details and what they need, and tells them you will call back. You get an email within a minute and a notification on your phone.

Do I keep my number?

Yes. The number on your truck, your website and your Google listing stays the same. You set up call forwarding to a local number we give you, and you can turn it off with one code.

How do I set up call forwarding?

On AT&T and T-Mobile you dial a code like **004* then your While You Work number then #. On Verizon you dial *71 then the number. Our call forwarding page has the codes for each carrier and what to do on others.

Can it answer every call, not just the ones I miss?

Yes. You can forward every call, only missed calls, or switch answering on and off from the app when you start and finish a job.

Does it work nights and weekends?

Yes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. You choose what after-hours callers are told.

Can it put a caller through to me?

Yes, if you switch on call transfer. The assistant puts urgent callers through to your cell. This works when you forward only missed calls. If you forward every call to us, urgent calls reach you as an URGENT email and notification instead.

Texts, email and the app

Will I get a text after each call?

Not yet in the US. Carriers require businesses to register before sending texts, and our registration is in progress. Until it is approved you get each call by email within a minute and as a notification on your phone.

Will my callers get a text?

Not at launch. Texting callers in your business name needs a separate registration for each business. We plan to offer it as an option later.

Is there an app?

Yes, for iPhone and Android. It is going through App Store and Google Play review now. Until it is listed, the same features work in your web dashboard.

Money

What does it cost?

There are three plans. Starter is $39 a month for 50 calls. Pro is $79 a month for 150 calls and adds urgent call transfer, website chat and booking links. Business is $149 a month for 400 calls and adds calendar booking, email and social message replies. Prices are before any state sales tax. No setup fee.

Is there a founding offer?

Yes. The first 50 US businesses get Pro for $59 a month for their first 12 months. After that it moves to the normal Pro price of $79 a month.

Can I pay yearly?

Yes. A year costs ten times the monthly price, so you get 2 months free: $390 for Starter, $790 for Pro and $1,490 for Business.

Can I try it without risk?

Yes. You pay for your plan when you sign up. If it is not for you, cancel within 14 days of the day your line goes live and we refund you in full. After that it renews until you cancel, and you can cancel any time from your dashboard.

What if I go over my calls?

We count answered calls, not minutes. A call counts once, however long it lasts, up to 10 minutes. Extra calls cost $0.75 each on Starter, $0.65 on Pro and $0.50 on Business, and you can move up a plan at any time.

I am already a customer. Does my price change?

No. Your price stays as it is.

Is there a contract?

No. Cancel any time from your dashboard or by email. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for.

When can I sign up?

US sign-ups open in November. Email us now to get on the early access list.

Recording and privacy

Are calls recorded? Is that legal?

Yes, calls are recorded. Federal law needs one party's consent, and some states, including California, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Washington, need everyone on the call to agree. Because callers can be in any state, the assistant tells every caller that the call is recorded and that it is an AI assistant. If you have questions about your own state, talk to your attorney.

How long are recordings kept?

Recordings are kept for 30 days and then deleted. Transcripts are kept for 12 months.

Where is my data held?

Your account and call records are on our servers in London, England. To answer each call, the audio and transcript are also processed by our voice and AI providers. Our US privacy policy is being reviewed by a US attorney before launch.

Does it take card payments?

No. It never asks callers for card details.
